MEDREFLEXX: Don’t Sedate, Activate! The knowledge of the complexities of the sensorimotor control of the body is often neglected in traditional orthopaedic practice. There’s no other way to explain why even today, a large portion of the prescribed insoles follow a traditional approach of trying to correct foot deformities with firm, supportive insole elements.

In these regulations, the function of the foot has no – or at the very best, a defective - counterpart. Its central importance for the entire stasis and symptoms of the musculoskeletal system is completely ignored. Supportive, conventional insoles fix the foot in its deformity. The foot muscles (the active portion of the foot) are kept artificially passive.

Form follows Function

What results is a further weakening of the foot’s active stabilizing muscles. If the treatment of back pain is increasingly using active muscle training as an important component for successful treatment, then this principle also applies to the treatment of dysfunctions in the foot. “Don’t sedate, activate”, or “The function determines the form”: these are the fundamental findings of MEDREFLEXX as based on many successfully treated patients with afference-stimulating, sensorimotor insoles. Do you prescribe a corset to every patient with back pain?

In contrast to conventional “passive” insoles, sensorimotor “active” insoles are individually tailored to the patient’s foot muscles, checked regularly and adjusted to the therapeutic progress.
